Welcome into the month of May. Happy New Month, family. We sincerely would like to thank God for His faithfulness in the preceding months of this year. We pray that the Presence, mercy, empowerment and grace of God would continually abide with us in Jesus name. Amen. The prophecy for the month of May is “my month of God’s goodness”. Goodness simply defined means the quality of being good. Google tells me that being good means “that which is morally right; righteousness.” However, Jesus says in Luke 18:19: “Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? None is good, save one, that is, God. “Hence, goodness is an attribute of God. No wonder the Bible says one of the fruit of the Spirit is goodness. The Bible talks about how the goodness of God can be universal in Matthew 5:45b, how God causes the sunshine and the rain to fall both on the just and the unjust. “For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. “God is a good God. However, in the month of May, we would also be enjoying the special kind of goodness from God. According to Exodus 33:19, God says: “And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy” You know how good God has been since the beginning of this year. It is however very amazing that in this month of Goodness, the best is yet to come. You are going to experience God’s goodness like never before. God promises that He will cause all His goodness to pass before us. When God caused all His goodness to pass before Moses, his face shone that men could not look at him. It signifies that the Presence and glory of God was upon Moses and no one could deny it. Be ready to see your face shine and no one would be able to deny it. It is also important to know that the verse further says, “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.” With the goodness of God come mercy, grace and kindness. God has chosen to be gracious and merciful unto us. Hence, this implies that this month of Goodness will be a full package of grace, mercy, kindness and faithfulness all from God. I pray that you will not miss out in any of these in Jesus name. Amen.

How to Obtain God’s Goodness

  • Be grateful for the past goodness of God: In Psalm 107: 8, David admonishes us to praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
  • Be in the pursuit of being good like your Father in Heaven who causes the sun and rain to shine and fall on both the good and evil. Matthew 5:45
  • Do not despise the goodness of God. Romans 2:4, Romans 11:22
  • Ask for the fruit of goodness. Galatians 5:22
  • Ask God for the grace to be good. Psalms 119:68 (KJV): Thou art good and doest good; teach me thy statutes.

Why Do We Need God’s Goodness?

  • To survive in this world: David said in Psalms 27:13, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” The goodness of God keeps you alive.
  • Leads to Repentance: According to Romans 2:4, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
  • To be satisfied: We need the goodness of God to satisfy our soul. Psalms 107:9 says, “For he satisfied the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”It is important that in this month of May, we remember what Paul says in Romans 11:22: “Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” Let us continual be in the pursuit of being good and stay within the atmosphere of God, so that we are not cut off from the promises of Goodness.

We pray sincerely in the words of David in Psalms 23:6, that in this month of May, “Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life: and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever in Jesus name. Amen.
