Welcome to February, the second month in the year 2018. We give thanks to almighty God for His loving kindness and tender mercies towards us.
This is our month of ‘MERCY’. It is my prayer that the mercy of God will speak for us in Jesus name – Amen!
‘Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. ‘ – Exodus 15:13
Overtimes, the word ‘mercy’ has been used in different terms and situations but have we asked ourselves what the word really connotes.
Dictionary.com defines ‘mercy is an act of kindness, compassion, or favor”. Therefore, one can apparently say that, having the mercy of God is synonymous to enjoying His kindness, compassion and favor.
Consciously or unconsciously, we have all experienced the mercies of God. Be it in individually, or in the lives of our loved ones, family and friends. -Lamentations 3: 22 -23 (KJV) records that:
‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. ‘
With all certainty, it is of the lord’s mercies that we have made it this far and if not for his mercies we would have been dead souls today for his mercies are new every day.
Are you grateful for HIS infinite mercies which never runs dry? Exodus 33:19 (KJV)
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
God’s divine mercies towards us are enormous. Exodus 9:15-16
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Hallelujah! We all have a new season of mercy and favor.
Moreover, mercy is defined as “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm”. Invariably, this means God forgives us countless times effortlessly without making references to our misdeeds.
The bible records in different scriptures of how plenteous God’s mercies is and how is mercies endureth forever -1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalms 103:8, 107:1, Ephesians 2:4 (KJV)
Psalm 136 is a reference to God’s infinite mercies towards us (His children) -the Israelites, which can all testify to.
HOW TO ENJOY THE MERCY OF GOD
- Be merciful – If you want mercy, you must be merciful.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:7
- Ask for mercy – It is important to acknowledge that we cannot do things by ourselves. Ask for the mercy and favor of God like David did. Ask God for help. David understood the power of God’s mercy that was why every time he prayed he asked for help from God according to His mercy. God’s mercy is tender and loving.
Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed. Psalms 6:2 (KJV)
‘Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. ‘Psalms 57:1
Furthermore, we need to ask for the mercy of God whenever we come short of His glory.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Psalm 51:1
- Keep His commandment -God is merciful to those that keep His commandments.
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Deuteronomy 5:10 (KJV)
- Fear God- reverence God.
And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. Luke 1:50 (KJV)
It is dangerous to lack God’s mercy – And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms – Hosea 2:4 (KJV).
Doing the contrary can cause the lack of God’s mercy. Stay in line with God’s will.
I pray that as we proceed in the month of February and the year 2018, God’s mercy will keep us and speak for us in Jesus name – Amen.
Have a wonderful month full of God’s mercies.
